Dangerous essential oils

Essential oils that may cause sun sensitivity

 

There are some people who are sensitive to sunlight and a rash appears on the skin after exposure to ultraviolet rays, this condition is known as Photosensitivity.

Photosensitivity may also occur when an external substance is applied to the skin. Some essential oils  may cause the skin to react to sunlight and these are:

 

Angelica

Bergamot is the most photosensitising oil 

Bitter orange (cold pressed)

Cumin

Dill

Grapefruit (cold pressed)

Lemon (cold pressed as well as distilled)

Lemon verbena

Lime (cold pressed as well as distilled)

Orange

Mandarin Tagetes Tangerine (cold pressed)

Verbena

If using photosensitising oils do so at night , stay indoors or wait at least four hours before exposing the skin to ultra violet light

 

 

Essentials oils which are considered unsafe to use

 

Aniseed

Arnica

Bitter almond

Bitter fennel

Camphor brown and yellow

Cassia

Horse radish

Mugwort

Mustard

Pennyroyal

Sassafras

Savory

Tansy

Tarragant

Thuja

Wintergreen

Wormseed

Wormwood
