FAQ Tanning Makeup

How can I maintain a healthy, tanned-looking skin, without using a false tan or a sun bed?

You can maintain a healthy tanned look by using bronzing makeup products. There are lots of these products around but be careful not to choose a bronzing product that is too orangey or highly frosted, it should be no more than two shades darker than your natural skin colour. You may choose from different textures to suit your skin type or personal preference:

  • Powders are best for oilier complexions
  • Cream, stick, liquid or gel, are best for dry or mature skin types
  • Creams and gels provide a dewy finish to the skin

Application

Powders should be applied with a wide fluffy powder brush. After dipping it in the colour tap it gently to remove excess powder and apply it to the parts of the face that the sun naturally catches - cheeks, forehead, bridge of nose and chin, blending it well in.

Creams gels, liquids and sticks should be applied with your fingers to the cheeks, blending backwards to the hairline, then use what is left on your fingers to apply to the other areas for the light sun kissed look.

Always apply lightly and build colour slowly if you use too much powder dust your face with a little loose powder to lighten the colour. Excess cream or gel can be removed with cotton wool.

These products look better used alone or over a tinted moisturiser, if you apply over foundation you can end up with a muddy patchy looking complexion.

Use natural looking colours on the eyes or keep it simple with a warm brown or black liner and a couple of coats of mascara and apply sheer clear coloured lipsticks or lip gloss.
