I began writing in 1990 in response to my own students' requests for reference books, that they could use to help them with their research and also for revising for assessments. I thoroughly enjoyed the process of collecting the information to be included in my books and have established close contacts with many of the leading companies in the beauty industry. They are keen to help as they appreciate the need for students of beauty and holistic therapies to continue their professional development and keep abreast of current trends.
My first book 'The Beauty Therapy Fact File' was written with this in mind and it has been revised several times to keep it in line with current beauty therapy qualifications. The fourth edition was published in 2004 and includes new trends, as well as the underpinning knowledge required for all levels of beauty therapy. I am pleased to say that it is a recommended textbook for many awarding bodies and is used in several other countries including Australia, Canada, South Africa and the Far East.
I wrote 'Business Management for Hairdressers and Therapists' to provide a management book that focused on the hair and beauty industry with specific case studies and information relating to our own industry. I feel it is much easier to understand management theories when they relate to the services and operations that are familiar rather than general management books that relate to other industries. This is an ideal book for students working towards NVQ level 3 and 4 in hairdressing, beauty or holistic therapies, any therapist or hairdresser hoping to start their own business or is already running a business but needs help. It is also useful for anyone applying for or already in a supervisory or management role.
'Reflexology' provides a specialist book covering all aspects of this treatment from consultation with the client, through the treatment process, to aftercare of the client. It also provides the essential underpinning knowledge relating to the treatment, relevant anatomy and physiology, contraindications and contra actions, health and safety, relevant legislation, setting up a business and professional practise. It is a useful book for all the awarding bodies.
'Illustrated Beauty Therapy Dictionary' was published in Januuary 2008. This book provides a comprehensive list of the words and terminology used in beauty, holistic and spa therapy.
It contains simple definitions and more detailed descriptions and explanations of technical terms, anatomy and physiology and business terminology.
It also has a pronunciation guide for all words and an appendix with full colour diagrams and charts to provide a quick guide to some of the essential anatomy and physiology. Click on the title to order your copy now.
I am always researching new areas and would be interested to hear from students or college lecturers if you have any suggestions or requirements that may help you.
