Highlighter

This does what it says, it will highlight or accentuate a feature. Using a highlighter will draw the eye to the area or brighten the skin. Highlighters also reflect light.

Areas most commonly highlighted are the eyes and cheekbones. Using a pale and frosted shadow will highlight the eyes and applying a facial highlighter just above the blusher will accentuate the cheekbones.

Highlighter should be applied over foundation and used sparingly

Highlighters come in different forms:

Cream form, ideal for dry and mature skin types

Powder form, ideal for oily to combination skin types

Liquid usually applied with a brush but more difficult to apply because it is runny and could be messy. Some are available in a thicker liquid form more like a gloss and applied with a sponge applicator. Liquids may dry too quickly on application and therefore are more difficult to blend. Liquids supplied with no applicator are messy and there is a risk of spilling the contents and wastage

Solid stick easy to apply and suits most skin types

Pen with a brush, which is easy to use
